A good friend pointed out my next post here (this one) would be the 500th addition to my photo stream since I began adding pictures in here 18 months ago. At that time I did not have a digital camera, so I took a few of my favorite 35mm slides, made quick scans, and loaded them on flickr. Unfortunately I did not know much about color calibration, dust removal, high resolution scanning, etc. The result was that I posted some rather amateurish scans. So for my 500th photo I decided to re-issue a technically better version of one of the earliest slides I posted on my first day. I corrected the color, removed numerous dust spots, straightened the horizon, as I did not even have the first slide on the scanner bed evenly, and reduced the noise so this image looks much more like the actual scene. Below is the untouched original right-out-of-the-scanner version of this slide first posted on 8/28/05. Both have advantages. Preferences?
